My Hands and I 01/23/2012

The three of us, my hands and I, have had a strong bond for oh some 20 somethin' years.. We discovered each other when I was an adventurous 3 year old in Jerusalem, and my dad put broken pieces of ancient pottery in my hands so I will put it together again. Now, I was 3, so I clearly don't remember this, but the fixed oh some 2000 years old pot still stands proudly to this day, for people to pass by it and hear the miraculous story of how a 3 year old put it together oh some 20 somethin' years ago...  That was when I discovered my hands had a life of their own.
Fast forward: School, Acting, Moving, Independence, Boys, Boys, Boys... Most of these years my hands were busy writing and smoking, smoking and writing...

A few years back I found out I had a talent for knitting. My hands simply wanted to knit..scarves, gloves, hats etc. It was a huge success when it came to birthday gifts & holiday gifts.. but also a huge success when it came to my cats chewing the yarn and putting their own artistis stamps on it.. Oy Vey. The yarn is now all piled away in the closet, away from any claws to reach it.
But the urge was still there, my hands pleaded with me to give them their 'fix'.
SO, I discovered knitting with wire, and kitting with chains, and knitting with pretty much anything non-yarn like. My cats are still tempted to play with these metals... but most of the time they just fear them from a distance.

Now, what do I do with this crazy discovery???!!
JEWELRY DESIGN. what an a-ha moment. all the pieces come together just like that ancient pot I put together oh some 20 somethin' years ago...

Here are some examples of my work, please feel free to comment & share!

Go placidly amid the noise and haste, and remember what peace there may be in silence.

As far as possible, without surrender, be on good terms with all persons.
Speak your truth quietly and clearly; and listen to others, even to the dull and the ignorant, they too have their story.
Avoid loud and aggressive persons, they are vexations to the spirit.

If you compare yourself with others, you may become vain and bitter; for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself.
Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans.
Keep interested in your own career, however humble; it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time.

Exercise caution in your business affairs, for the world is full of trickery.
But let this not blind you to what virtue there is; many persons strive for high ideals, and everywhere life is full of heroism.
Be yourself. Especially, do not feign affection. Neither be cynical about love, for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment it is perennial as the grass.

Take kindly to the counsel of the years, gracefully surrendering the things of youth. Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune.
But do not distress yourself with imaginings. Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness.

Beyond a wholesome discipline, be gentle with yourself. You are a child of the universe, no less than the trees and the stars; you have a right to be here. And whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.

Therefore be at peace with God, whatever you conceive Him to be, and whatever your labors and aspirations, in the noisy confusion of life, keep peace in your soul.

With all its sham, drudgery and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world.

Be cheerful. Strive to be happy.

Yeeeeessss!
With the help of my father, I am starting a new actor-related artsy project that will be for now named 'Project Faces'. It is about exploring one's self by exploring one's face. sounds vague? good! I don't want to reveal too much of it... just wanted to share my excitement. :)

~Monday afternoon. I am one minute staring at the snow outside my window and the next minute I am staring at my extremely fluffy cat Nunchuck that is having a bit of a needy day. and Yes, her name really IS Nunchuck. Well, I am a gamer at heart...~ Gotta do some productive things and some rehearsin', but for the most part, this day is pretty peaceful. The sounds of my ghostly heater are the only drama happening right now. and it IS pretty dramatic.. it's like there are little tiny construction workers operating right inside the heater. banging. Kind of like African drum beat. Every once in a while, they take a break and the ghostly shrieks take over....~ BOO~

Here this is what the Brooklyn Heights Promenade looks like these days...~Sigh~
